The Nemawashi method

Often, work meetings are always carried out in search of reaching aa according point to the proposals and arguments, and also tend to be long and strenuous.

Nemawashi is a Japanese word that means “stir the roots”, and was originally used by farmworkers when they needed to dig around the roots of trees or plants in order to prepare the ground.

Now, Nemawashi is a word widely used in decision-making process in a company and that allows correct and adequate interpersonal contact between those involved in consensus groups.

In Japan they perform Nemawashi when they want to present a project or proposal at a work meeting with bosses, but what they do prior to the meeting is to share the project with their area coworkers to get everyone agrees with it, thus have a greater support by presenting the proposal in representation of the area. This as an example.

The support would be total and would have little chances of being rejected, but if colleagues do not share the idea and think that it is not the best it contributes to return to work to value their opinions and rethink the proposal to not show something bad to the boss board.

This method makes the organization more horizontal and nourished by the opinion of everyone. The motivation of work teams will receive and incentive and the decision-making will have less errors. That is why it is said that Japanese companies make few mistakes and improve continuously.

Without a doubt this technique feeds employees ´confidence, helping them to feel part of the decisions that the company takes, contributing their effort and opinion to setting a path in the company. That is why in MVP Business Strategy we know the importance of organizational development. If you need advice, contact us.
